Leader in Me

STEM -CODING Empowerment brain time 

in Mrs. Camperos' classroom

SOE implemented an Empowerment time as part of the Leader in Me framework and I transformed it into STEM-CODING Brain empowerment time.

​

So for 30 minutes on Wednesday and 30 minutes on Friday we CODE. 

​

I introduced CODING basic vocabulary to create CODING Literacy using two children books:

  • Hello Ruby

  • How to CODE a sandcastle

​

As we learned our new vocabulary we wrote it down on our CODING journal and we drew a picture of what we understood. We applied these new concepts in unplugged games and activities and then we went into Tinker first and Swift playgrounds later. As we understood the commands, sequence, loops that go into solving a puzzle and going to the next level, we got better everyday at coding every day.

We have also used the love letters website from Linda Liukas and Code.org.

​
