Our CODE Camp experience was above and beyond my expectations. 46 students registered at the end of the school year and 38 showed up very excited on that Monday July 29th. Since our numbers were so high, we asked some teachers to come and help us and so it turned out to be all of Second Grade Teachers participating at our first CODE Camp.

We came together a week before and with the help of our EdTech Leader, Amy Houser, we planned and created different sessions or stations were kids could participate mixing plugged and unplugged activities. In this sense, we created 4 classroom each representing a different station. Some classroom were plugged activities and other classrooms were unplugged activities. They would start in their "homeroom" and rotate every 50 minutes to a different classroom, different activity. So Mrs. J was a  unplugged activities based on Ruby Rose book; Mrs M. was an unplugged activity using tinker Space cadet; Mrs. O was coding with Ozobots and Mrs. Camperos was unplugged activities based on the Learning to Code Apple book.

Students loved coming to our Coding Camp, the first ever in our District. Our school Shadow Oaks Elementary open their doors to Elementary, Middle and High Schoolers all engaged in Coding learning at their level.

For our Second Graders many of which had received no Coding lessons before, we made a lot of emphasis on Vocabulary which we made sure was discussed at every station. Command, Sequence, Bug, Debug, Algorithm; over dance moves, Draw and Tell, and other fun activities were being used over and over by our Campers who could not get enough. They did not want to leave at the end of each day and now as we started our School Year they are the our ambassadors as we attempt to create a time to Teach Coding every week to continue to learn vocabulary and  apply this problem solving skill to all our school subjects and create a Mindset for grit.

Our CODE Camp was so successful that we even made it to our District's Back to School Message!
